About this deal

The FP-10 is also using a downward-facing dual speaker system, but with no tone ports and only 12 watts of power. Sign up to the Roland UK monthly newsletter and look forward to the latest gear news, artist-related features, how-to guides and much more in your inbox.

The included sheet music holder can stay at home or not; however, the pedal (also included) is essential. Re 1 and 2, how do we know Casio's new action in the S1000 (and S3000) isn't just as quiet (unlike previous models! Like this with Roland pianos you can use the mobile app (through BT) AND have the piano connected to your DAW on the PC or Mac (through USB Midi). Weighing only 12kg, the Roland FP-10 is easily carried to a small concert venue or a practice room, along with its transformer. The included footswitch pedal is pretty basic and doesn’t look or feel like an acoustic piano pedal. The keys are made of plastic and topped with moisture-absorbing Ivory Touch, which provides a better grip and enhances control. Plus, with Bluetooth and MIDI connectivity, you can connect with a world of Digital Audio Workstations (DAW) and apps ranging from Apple GarageBand to Roland’s Piano Partner 2. LAG T88A, Breedlove Signature Concert Copper E, Breedlove Pursuit Exotic Concert CE Koa, Walden D640T, Tanglewood TRSJ-VS, Vintage VE2000GG. I can also say that the key weight of this keyboard is moderately heavier in feel than my upright Yamaha B2 acoustic piano so it does achieve a very realistic hammer action. With that said, if you want the most hassle-free all-in-one option, then, yeah, bundles are great for that.

The S1100 is using a dual downward-facing system with 16 watts of amplifier power and a pair of tone ports so your ear can get some direct sound. When you see someone referring to ‘an optional 3-pedal unit’, they’re usually talking about the pedal unit designed just for that model by the same manufacturer who made the keyboard itself (rather than 3rd party pedals). The FP-10, like most digital pianos, does not offer a battery-powered option, though it is also quite portable at 27 lbs. The graded hammer action is both sensitive and responsive, allowing fast repetitions and delicate phrasing. There are some important differences between these two instruments when it comes to extended functions and accessory options, to the point that some of these functions could be a huge determining factor as to which action will be a better choice for you. This is why I never understand when people say something like "The Rhodes sounds were rubbish" or "The acoustic pianos are not great" Not great for who? As with most if not all modern digital pianos you get additional sounds to the standard concert grand you would expect – including organ, electric pianos and strings. The mechanical key action sound is actually a bit quieter on this action compared to the PHA4, and this is probably due to an increased level of key cushioning. Sturdily built and thoughtfully designed, the FP-10 includes a sheet music holder, a sustain pedal port, and a stereo mini-jack output for headphones or external speakers.

It seems a strange choice but amazingly, they sound really clear and being underneath doesn’t seem to have any negative impact. The sound and feel of an acoustic grand Roland’s advanced piano technologies offer superior tone and touch that will satisfy the most experienced pianists. I was thinking about escapement usability for some time and finally came to the conclusion that it is a useful feature. Compared to the PX-S1000 the FP-10 is larger, weighs more, is less attractive (subjective, but likely true for most people), has half the polyphony (although 96 is still more than adequate) and offers three less tones (15 Vs.At least in Europe, the Casio CDP-S1000 is slightly more expensive than the FP-10, and in the entry-level range, budget tends to be a key aspect. While you’ll find the same SuperNATURAL sound engine and 88-key PHA-4 Standard keyboard as models lower down the range, the FP-60X specs up with more onboard sounds, built-in ambience effects, more powerful speakers, and immersive Headphones 3D Ambience.
