About this deal

I've just tested Mugler Aura at Charles de Gaulle Airport. Unlike the much-maligned Chanel Gabrielle or the unremarkable Mon Guerlain, this is a long-awaited pillar that does NOT care about pleasing everyone and their momma. Mugler doesn't play safe, and thank god for that. Having said that, I'm pretty certain that Aura is not going to become an uber-popular, ubiquitous scent like Angel and Alien: it's more akin to Womanity, because it is rather ambivalent and polarising. And yet I still in principle admire the less popular Mugler scents like Womanity. So I want to like this. It’s just so freaking hard! It’s a screamo sugar bomb- but a green herbal caramel milkshake? No that sounds like barf…It’s not bad. It’s just a lot. Of sugar. I loved the comment from yesterday_borscht “This is the same Aura, but friendly to people from La vie est belle gang” because it’s the most accurate to my experience.

If I concentrate my attention, there is indeed an almond-like nuttiness embedded within, maybe stemming from the Tiger Liana which is described by Daphne Bugey as having vanilla, almond and smoky facets. Occasionally, a fatty, slightly sour animalic nuance can also be perceived. But they are not daring enough to provide a meaningful contrast like patchouli in Angel or aquatic spiciness in Womanity. Aura opens on my skin with an intensely sweet-tart fruity accord, along with a tropical green note. The vanilla also starts to manifest from the very beginning, providing an opaque, creamy texture to the fruity accord.

Sillage is good. Another person will be fairly close to you to enjoy the scent, perhaps leaning in. I'm glad I bought a 100 ml refill bottle 3 years ago. As they did with Womanity I'm pretty sure they will change the formula to become more ... crowd friendly. Hence a spark of genius will be gone and that will smell like other perfumes more or less.

The composition is not overly complex. A note of creamy, milky gardenia has replaced the zesty orange blossom from the original. Smooth sandalwood, foody cinnamon and white musk shine through in the drydown. There's a hint of minty-green freshness throughout this composition, which smells slightly reminiscent of organic toothpaste. The original Aura EDP is unique, quirky and often loud. I enjoyed smelling the original Aura, however, I couldn't wear it for long periods. Aura Eau de Parfum Sensuelle is perfectly balanced to my nose and is my favourite Aura flanker to date. not be liable for any direct, indirect or consequential loss or damage arising under these terms and It gives me a magical scent, a perfume that evokes a wild but calm nature, the perfect signature fragrance for the elves of the Lothlórien forest, a strange gourmand for those of us who have tried rhubarb-based pastries.

What an incredibly interesting concoction! The initial blast, at least to my nose, is an almost minty, sweet wintergreen aroma that has me raising a perplexed brow. Once it settles on the skin, the refreshing wintergreen dances with vanilla in the most oddly complex way. I’m not sure about the other notes, but I predominantly get a green, cold, icy refreshing vanilla. I’m not sure if I like it, yet my nose keeps being drawn to my wrist, whether I want to or not. I feel this could almost be unisex, if I really think about it. The trail is a moderate one, and I find this to be incredibly long lasting. I can easily smell this 12 hours later, and that’s without shoving my nose into my skin. After about 8 hours, the vanilla finally stops screaming, and surprisingly, the tropical green note survives it. Now, Aura is mainly a soft, ripe tropical fruitiness mixed with a delicate green camphor nuance and merest earthy, dust-like astringency, like a humid tropical jungle in a fairy tale, without any deadly, hostile creatures. This far dry down reminds me of Zoologist Bat, but Aura at this stage feels much gentler and easier to appreciate, whimsical yet adorable as well. My husband said “you smell like a bunch of pixies hanging out in a wild strawberry bush in the forest.” First facet, a spicy floral flourish. Rich and intriguing, almost intoxicating. The gardenia is velvety and lush. The cinnamon leaf supplies a bit of warm spice. This perfume is exuberant, fresh, strong, unapologetic, and, dare I say, a bit of a hodge-podge in the best possible taste.

I prefer this over the original but... it must be said that the feelings they evoke are very different. The sillage is pretty much non existent after wearing it for ~30 minutes I don't think anyone will be able to notice it except if they really lean in. For me I got about 6 hours of wear, as a skin scent, out of it and that's also quite disappointing. If you miss Ricci Ricci, this is her grassy springtime cousin. It's quirky, in a unique way same as Alien. They smell nothing alike, but share that same strong bold personality. If Alien smells sexy to you, this will come off as a fruity gentle dream. If you aren't into bold, attention seeking scents, avoid. But I'm a weirdo with a big personality, so I love this. Found it, sprayed my right forearm, and Aura Mugler is a more Minty and Powdery version of Joop for men! Middle facet, The Green and The Herbal. The herbs are just past their full power, noticeable but less fresh and more poignant. Heady and a bit intoxicating. I don't perceive the medicinal herb present in the EDP and EDT.It lasts forever which is a plus. Umm- the summer heat is def not ideal for this. So I will be trying it again if we ever have a another fall/winter that gets chilly. Apocalyptic fire tornadoes make me doubtful. What to do with all our cool weather scents?! 🙁 The only people I'd say could blindbuy this were people who get on with complicated compositions like OG Alien. I could definitely see this smelling drastically different based on body chemistry. I think that's why so many people have strong opinions.
