How do you choose? It’s mainly about the look and feel of the fabric. The Lenny Lamb Upgrade is made from marshmallow-soft woven fabric, and comes in a huge variety of colours and designs. The Mesh version is identical, but with a breathable mesh panel for extra ventilation for hot climates.
If you have a taller/heavier baby, you may want to size up to an Izmi Breeze Toddler Carrier sooner, at around 7-9 months. The size. Our Toddler Carriers have a wider and slightly taller body panel than our Baby Carriers, so bigger babies (7m+) and toddlers are even better supported - and feel lighter! The Caboo – or any stretchy wrap – is a much MUCH better alternative to the much-marketed Baby K’Tan. The Baby Ktan comes in fixed sizes, so is notoriously difficult to get a safe, comfy fit. The organic cotton Manduca XT is very similar in fit and function, and is suitable from 1 month to roughly 3 years (max weight 44lbs/20kg). The Integra Size 3 is the most compact preschool carrier on the market, with barely any padding but an ingeniously simple design that hugs your child’s weight into your body – especially if you’ll be carrying your child mostly on your front.The Ergobaby Omni Breeze is one of my absolute favourites. To be fair, the whole Ergobaby Omni range is great, but the Breeze and the Dream are the best for newborns as they cinches down smaller than all the others, but still last just as long – to around 1.5 to 2yrs. These Best Baby Wraps are theoretically safe to use with a toddler, but realistically by about 3-4 months, a non-stretchy carrier will be more supportive for your heavier, wiggly baby. They offer a sensible level of padding to the shoulders and waistbands and they fit a wide range of adults – not ideal for Very petite mums, who are likely to find the waistband too deep and bulky. Izmi Baby (0-6m+)has always been my favourite lightweight newborn carrier. Then they bought out the even-cooler Izmi Baby Breeze version, with ventilated soft mesh panels to keep your baby cool. Genius. Both are so much lighter and easier to use than pretty much any other carrier on the market. You can extend the width of your Izmi Toddler Carrier using the hidden Velcro tabs to ensure an ergonomic and comfy fit as your child grows.
Hana Baby Organic Wraps and Izmi Baby Wraps are an absolute dream for snuggles from 5lbs / 2.2kg. Do these up nice and tight and you’ll have a very happy baby and very comfy parents!Smaller babies may be comfortably carried in Izmi Carrier beyond 12 months. And if you have a taller/heavier baby, you may want to size up to an Izmi Toddler Carrier sooner, from around 7 months.
For You: Designed to fit all mums, dads and carers. Waistband extends from approx 61cm - 132cm (24” - 52”) I often tell parents it’s best to choose a baby carrier or sling for everyday use, then work out how to feed in it – rather than the other way round. Freerider Slingsare ultra-thin but offer more firm-feeling support (as they stretch in one direction only) and are made from sustainably made silky-soft Tencel fabric. In very cold weather: as above, with a coat or other warm layer around both of you. Avoid bulky snowsuits to prevent overheating. Keeping your baby close to your body, without bulky fabric between you, will make you more aware of how warm or cool they are. When you head indoors you can easily undo your coat to help prevent them - and you - from overheating. If you want an ultra-lightweight, just-in-case carrier for when little legs get tired, you won’t get more compact and great value than the Izmi Toddler Carrier, perfect from around 9 months to 3 years.

THE EASIEST TO WEAR: Thanks to its two adjustable bands, wearing the baby carrier newborn will be very simple. Your baby should be held high and snug against your chest, close enough to kiss the top of their head; and with the carrier tightened to prevent them flopping or slumping away from your body.
