In night mode I still found noise levels too high to sleep with it running in the same room, but it was fine running in a room downstairs or in another room, with only a barely perceptible low hum crossing walls or floors. MeacoDry Arete One review: What could be improved? As important as it is to have moisture in the air, too much can cause problems, from mould growth to making it feel hotter as a result of sweat being unable to evaporate. Dehumidifiers are the solution, but many are expensive to run and fiddly to use. The MeacoDry Arete One aims to fix that. It’s relatively cheap to run and can aim for an ideal humidity level automatically, so you’ll never over-dry your air. Design and Features You can wheel the Arete One around but it also has a concealed carry handle so you can get it up the stairs if you need to. The 25 litre model measures 60cm x 35cm x 25 cm.
Note that the 'L' here refers to how many litres of water the machines can remove from the air each day, at 30C and 80% relative humidity. It does not refer to the size of the tank, which is 4.8 litres on both models. Also note that you won't actually be removing that amount of moisture per day, unless you like your home to have the hot and moist ambience of a tropical rainforest. For emptying, the tank simply pulls out the front of the machine so you can pour away the water. Just be careful, though – the tank is quite heavy when full. The downstairs front bedroom with 3 windows never gets any sunlight and always feels damp and cold with lots of condensation and mould especially appearing on edge of mattress and walls around window frame. This dehumidifier is really easy to move around. It’s not light, in fact, it weighs 10.9kg, but there is a handy retractable handle situated on the top of the machine, which makes lifting it a lot more comfortable. It’s worth saying that the 25 litre appliance is Meaco’s top of the line Arete One model. It’s pricey but very powerful and for smaller areas, you could get a cheaper model. VerdictIt’s available from a number of retailers but the best prices we have found for the 25L Arete One are from Aircon Direct and the Aircon Centre. Customers cannot choose your own delivery time slot as these are allocated by our automated route planning system. Once issued your timeslot cannot be changed, therefore you must be in to accept the delivery, otherwise a failed delivery charge will apply. Unforeseen Circumstances Meaco has made the Arete One easy to use. Via the control panel on the front, you can set the target relative humidity, between 40% and 70%. I’d aim for 50% in most cases, although a higher setting, such as 60%, can help reduce running costs. When running, it shows the current humidity level. To make things easier, Arete comes with a hose adapter to allow you to use a standard garden hose for continuous drainage if you need it.

We should point out that I took these sound readings using a smartphone app inside a home with wooden floors, and that sound levels will vary depending on your carpet, curtains and furnishings. Meaco’s own noise measurements, taken in a sealed chamber using calibrated microphones at 1m from all four sides, measured noise levels at between 38dB and 40dB for the 20L model and 40 and 42dB for the 25L model. Because this isn’t a dedicated air purifier, it doesn’t have sensors to determine the air quality so the air purifier won’t automatically correct 'bad' air and will only work when the dehumidifier is running, but it’s still a great additional feature to have included.
