About this deal

Even though this high end escort/sex workers name is the same at my sweet deceased grandma I'm happy to say I did not picture her face at all.

If you want an engaging and wild story, One Last Secret is for you. A thriller that will keep you guessing, until the very end. One final, luxurious week and she can leave the dangerous, difficult escort world, because Dora has fallen in love and is ready to embrace a better future. Adele Parks does it again. I have read and loved her books before and this one is no exception. It's good. As the story developed, I could not believe some of the surprise revelations that Parks includes. At some points I was gasping in disbelief, finding myself re-reading some paragraphs in case I had missed something! There were some clever plot twists that come in the final chapters, so this is definitely a book you need to see through to the end to truly appreciate Parks thrilling narrative. Dora is an high classed escort who happens to fall into a doting relationship with her friend Evan.Dora can’t resist taking one last job - escorting a regular to a French château and pretending to be his girlfriend. No sex allowed. Surely that’s fine? Dora goes on one last girlfriend experience (without the sex) to a super secluded mansion in the south of France. She is gaslit, drugged, and raped while drugged. She does not figure out that her “naps” right after politely eating or drinking something forced on her mean she was drugged even though it happens multiple times. The guy who beat her up is an employee of her daughter’s father who has brought her out there to be murdered by that employee. Dora is an escort who has just gotten engaged and decided to leave her work in the past, when she gets a call from a former client for one last job at a beautiful chateau in the south of France. She has to play the role of Daniel's girlfriend. When Dora gets to the chateau, she realizes nothing is what it seems. She finds herself face-to-face with a man she has never forgotten, the one man who really knows her. As old secrets resurface, she realizes that one last secret could cost her her life.

One Last Secret by Adele Parks took me on quite a ride. I didn’t know what to expect at any given time, and I like that in a thriller. In fact, I usually don’t like super-gonzo twists, but in this case, the ones that occurred were just plausible enough to keep them from being too over-the-top. Dora was an interesting character, hardened by life but still caring enough to help a friend out – at her own peril. The author carefully chooses when to reveal another piece of Dora’s puzzle so that it coincides with what is occurring in the present narrative. We hear the story from Dora's POV. She's a compelling main character. She can be selfish and cold and has some serious armour built up. But we see glimpses into her past that show another side of her. And oh is she clever. Everything really takes off and you get a good look into what is going on. About who is who and why things are happening the way they are. What deep secrets are being kept. Who will survive this week of horrors? In our conversation, Adele talks about why she chose a sex worker as her main character, the research she did, and why that character can sometimes be confrontational with the reader. She also shares how she transitioned from writing romantic comedies to psychological thrillers, how she avoids stereotypes, spidergrams, and so much more. Then, she treats us to a reading from “One Last Secret.” This book ends with a big surprise too. I didn't expect it at all. I thought it was a bit cruel though. But it made it what it was and that is not up to me to change right. I just think maybe Dora would appreciate knowing. Therefore I did not like this ending that much. Though it was unexpected. I was totally surprised. This story has a few surprises along the way. They keep you wanting more for sure.
