The OnePlus 10 Pro has an impressive camera setup and a slick design, and it breaks you out of the Apple-Samsung-Google triumvirate. We were less impressed with the phone’s Portrait Video capabilities, which come nowhere close to the magic of Apple’s iPhone 13 line’s Cinematic mode video (it needs a face in frame to work). Samsung says that the phone’s neural processing unit (NPU) is 2x faster than the previous version, which does a better job at sharpening details and reducing visual noise in low-light conditions.

I’m not a huge fan of the aesthetic of One UI though, especially when compared to how slick Android now looks on a Pixel 6 Pro. To continue making our technology accessible to everyone, Samsung has developed and applied a variety of technical solutions.The auto-framing capability, which literally zooms the camera in and out to keep people in frame, doesn’t seem all that useful – we suspect it needs more refinement. What these improvements mean is that both writing and doodling feels much more natural and responsive this time around.

It makes a lot of sense to cram the Note’s stylus-friendly features into the priciest S series flagship. We opened Sketchbook and had a great time drawing, especially because the pen and screen recognize pressure and angle. It’s giant, expensive, and might be overkill for people who simply want a nice screen, decent photos, and a good on-screen social media experience. As you’d expect there’s 5G support, plus Wi-Fi 6 and 6E connectivity for those with a supported router and UWB for devices that work with ultra wideband such as Samsung’s Smart Tag.According to Samsung, the screen’s minimum starting refresh rate has been adjusted from 10Hz down to 1Hz, which should let the S22 Ultra save a bit more energy when performing actions such as reading ebooks. What’s more important though is that Samsung is seriously supporting this phone when it comes to updates. With solutions for vision, hearing, dexterity and interaction, people with disabilities may also use some of our new and exciting features. My review sample is the 12GB/256GB Exynos model, so I can’t comment on the performance of the 8GB RAM variant or the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 model.
