About this deal

Whitehead's first attempt at Parliament was in the 1966 general election when as vice-chairman of the Young Fabian Group he was selected to take on Aidan Crawley in West Derbyshire. Phoenix from the flames Plucky Harriet Crawley – who lost her two brothers, mother and husband in tragic accidents – has written a gripping thriller. Both Clive and Marina are great characters and you care about them straight away and hope things turn out well for them. Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item. The killer has taken the apparently living child and is demanding that the dead woman’s bereaved family pay a ransom in cryptocurrency.

As the political climate stands at this moment in time I think it’s fair to say that the Cold War never really ceased – it just evolved into a modernised version. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and it definitely sets itself up for a sequel I would not hesitate to pick up. The characters that make up the delegation to Moscow are full of stereotypes that have all been written before. The value of original Press Photos prints has been steadily increasing in value and is expected to to continue doing so. Even though she was only 55, she knew with absolute certainty that she would never have another relationship.

My decision was made: I would step way outside my comfort zone and go for broke, set the novel in the present day, at the highest level of government, and make it a clash between the Kremlin and Downing Street. Being set in 2017, the novel feels contemporary, but the subject matter doesn’t have to deal with the war against Ukraine, which would be a different kind of book. When her former lover, Clive Franklin, arrives in Moscow to translate for the visiting British prime minister, Marina passes him what she learns, while drawing increasing suspicion from some very dangerous enemies. He played a total of 39 times for Oxford and 33 for Kent as well as eight times for Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) as well as making a few appearances for other teams such as the Free Foresters. At the embassy, Clive learns of a pending Russian assault on undersea cables linking the US to the UK which would paralyse communications and collapse the Western economy.

W ritten by an insider: Harriet Crawley lived in Moscow for many years, working in the energy sector at a time of exploding wealth concentration and increasingly violent political repression. The accepted wisdom is that you’re either an interpreter who interprets speech, or a translator who translates text. Aidan Merivale Crawley MBE (10 April 1908 – 3 November 1993) [1] was a British journalist, television executive and editor, and politician. Clive is delighted to be back in Moscow, and finds himself looking forward to the challenge of testing his language skills once more, despite the difficulties of a country where the beady eye of the FSB is constantly turned in your direction. Please remember it can take some time for your bank or credit card company to process and post the refund too.Clive is in a dangerous position as a mostly untrained go-between; although he’s being watched, naturally, as a diplomat he’s not in quite the same position as his lover.

She lavishes you with references to art, literature and music, and also brings you bang up to date with themes of state-of-the-art technology, which makes this story delightfully many-layered. This is a tough novel on many levels, dealing with abuse, cruelty, vicious sibling rivalry, mental illness, addiction and all kinds of distress. I doubt very much that I shall ever set foot in Russia again, but many Russian people and places are stamped on my heart.

Having just googled a map of the cables, I can see why - there are quite a few, coming ashore in several locations.

At the Bolshoi, Marina drops a bombshell: she tells Clive she is ready to betray her country for a new life and promises top secret intelligence which might just derail Russia’s malevolent sabotage plans.Clive is asked to step in to translate for the British PM in Russia where he finds himself drawn into the insidious intrigues of the Russians, and also surprised to find his ex-girlfriend in the midst of this dangerous game of political chess.
